I'm a little shocked that it's been over two months since I've updated my blog!! Now that Ben and I have been living in Okinawa for quite some time, I kind of forget that we live on the other side of the world in a foreign country. At the risk of sounding ungrateful (which I definitely am not) our lives now seem pretty normal and not very noteworthy.
With our thirst for adventure dying down a bit, November and December have pretty much been comprised of lazy days reading at the beach or lazy days meandering around American Village. The one big change in our lives has been the weather, its been absolutely gorgeous (low 70's to high 60's) which Ben and I are extremely thankful for after a hellishly hot summer.
Today we decided, for the first time in a while, to get out and go exploring. As the year comes to a close, we've reflected on the many fun adventures we've had on this island which has revived our spirit to explore. With a desire to spend the day outdoors (might I remind you that it is BEAUTIFUL here this time of year) we headed to the farthest point south on the island to check out the Gushikawa castle ruins and Cape Kyan. The sites were pretty standard for Okinawa (dramatic cliffs and crumbling stone walls) but the gorgeous 70 weather made for a seriously enjoyable Sunday afternoon.
Below is a collection of random pictures from the past couple of months. November and December have brought us the Marine Ball, the holiday season, a few trips up north with our friends and much more!
Our cats have gotten in the Christmas spirit as well! Besides trying to destroy our Christmas tree, they have also taken up a huge interest in the Yule log video that is comprised of a crackling fireplace and Christmas songs. These two could easily watch this program for hours (which is good because it distracts them from meddling with our decorations)
I can't wait to see what excitement 2017 has in store for us!
We're Kara and Ben, a Marine Corps family currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Enjoy our adventures, travels, photos, thoughts, and life together halfway around the world!
