After four weeks of discussing and dreaming about exploring northern Okinawa, our opportunity finally arose when our friends suggested we visit Sea Glass Beach. Less than an hours drive on the expressway towards our destination brought us extremely close to the top part of Okinawa.. A shocking reminder how small this island actually is. When we finally approached Sea Glass we travelled on a one-lane gravel road which honestly gave us the impression that we were trespassing- not a totally unusual feeling here considering the typical nature of Okinawan back roads. At the beach, there was unfortunately way less sea glass than we had anticipated. The week leading up to our trip consisted of daily storms which most likely swept away most of the goodies. We didn't leave empty handed though, there were many other little sea treasures that we were able to keep (as pictured above). My favorite part about Sea Glass was that it was covered in giant protruding rocksand tide pools which were chalk-full of marine life.... Ben falling off a rock face was also pretty amusing 😂. Although we had a ton of fun, this trip made me crave exploration up north even more- I can't wait to see what adventure we get ourselves into next weekend!
